The deeper meaning behind the Secret Society of Unreasonable Kindness

Last year, I had a strong, visceral sense that Unreasonable Kindness was my next direction in life. It was so clear to me that I wanted to create a community of practice around that concept.

It's been almost a year now since I first had the idea, and I've come to a new level of realization of why I feel it's so important.

The Secret Society of Unreasonable Kindness is a place to practice our creativity and imagination to resist injustice.

Here's what recently became clear to me, a hypothesis of why this work is vital from my perspective:

My creativity and imagination feel rusty right now.

(I'm curious if yours do too...?)

I'm out of practice! And the realm where it feels most needed, yet most rusty, is resisting injustice.

I'm noticing that this can contribute to my sense of overwhelm and paralysis when I'm trying to respond to the unending onslaught of injustices around me.

Resisting the book bans being proposed in my local school district.

Convincing my representatives to stop arming Israel using our tax dollars to fund genocide of the Palestinian people.

Calling for justice for Brandon Durham who was murdered by the police.

So I have a sense that we need creativity and imagination, it's probably rusty for many of us, and we have to start somewhere...so why not in the land of kindness, joy, and delight?

The Secret Society is a place to be in community and create ripples of kindness, but it's also a training ground for resisting injustice.

And a very wise member of the Secret Society pointed out that doing it in community means that the sum of our actions is greater than their parts. We're stronger, more resilient, more courageous as a community.

I want to be able to wake up every day and know that I can tap into my creativity and imagination to fight back against injustice.

I would love for you to join me in that world.
